Snow snow snow [Dec. 19th, 2009|09:11 am]

[mood | aggravated]

For the first time in over two years of working at my store I had to call out. We are in a severe snow storm, my street hasn't been plowed nor(From what I can see from the end of my drive) the side street into my neighborhood. To make matters worst, I don't have a car or a bike. I have to rely on rides to get to work. (I have walked there before but it took me over on hour on a nice summer day.) Today I would not even attempt it. Wind is blowing the snow into huge snow drifts, the snow is still coming down hard making it difficult to see not to mention its freezing cold! Usually my mom is wonderful about getting me to work but today she refused to go out in the storm. (I also doubt her Honda Civic could drive on the unplowed streets anyway.) I was suppose to be in at 9am and I called the store a few minutes after it opened at 8am to tell them I didn't have a way in. The shift supervisor did nothing but yell and complain! She said she was able to get in and now she was just going to have to be by herself(In the front store, she mentioned an RX tech being there) and now "nothing will get done!" (Someone else is scheduled to come in at 1pm, they'll probably make it in so I'll look even more like a slacker.) Reminder, I am just a cashier, all I would have been allowed to do would be to stand up front and watch as nobody came in because the news is advising people not to go out. Surprise to me because even at my old store that was simply horrible in relations to employees, we had a bad storm, and I couldn't get in and they understood and just said, "No problem!" not "Whatever!" *Update: I heard from my co-worker that they closed the store at 1pm. (He might have  come in early because he was schedule to come in at 1pm.) But they stayed till 3pm to get the signs up for tomorrow.*

Nudie White Magic Night for sale on ebay [Dec. 19th, 2009|02:45 am]

White Magic Night really is a beautiful girl, and I have one up for sale... I thought I would advertise here because I really hope she goes to a good home. She is in flawless condition and all we really did together was take some photos and I washed her hair once (but that made her hair nicer anyway). I hope she goes to a good home!

Here is the link if you are interested: White Magic Night

Yule Never Believe This... [Dec. 15th, 2009|06:36 pm]

[mood | aggravated]

Fist, when I clocked in to relieve my store manager on truck night (and that was a whole 'nother adventure), he told me the DM visited the store the night after my fliflop afternoon shift Sunday and griped about the store being so dirty. Well, considering he (the SM) had left two hours early and sent another cashier home "to cut hours", I was short-handed and rang up over 100 customers in four hours (the other two spent counting-down drawers, three of them well-over a grand). There was another shift, but she was on the floor doing push, and the cashier (bless her hardworking heart), was tied-up in photolab trying to deal with a mass of orders and people who couldn't figure out the kiosks.

On top of all that, we had to deal with this stupid 20%-off coupon special, which was barely a special at all, with all the exclusions. I nearly lost it having to explain to the customers (some whose grasp of English was tentative at best) why they didn't get a full 20% off their orders (sale items, clearance items, gift cards, cigarettes, etc. are excluded). One customer had a large purchase and nearly all of it was sale items, so when he scanned his coupon, he only got a couple bucks off an order of nearly 100 dollars. Oh yeah, he was pissed and griping about false advertising (though the stipulations are clearly stated on the coupon). Some customers insisted on doing refunds and returns and a couple walked-out on their transactions, leaving us with literally shopping carts of product to re-shelve. What a CROCK!

So, with two people short, a busy Sunday afternoon made worse by heavy photo orders and a crappy coupon event, we barely held our own, and the DM comes in and gripes that the store's a little dirty? Arrrggggh! To my SM's credit though, he didn't blame me (considereing he was one of the ones that left early on me anyway). Still, I always feel personally responsible for things like that. I try my best and it never seems to be enough.

Then the other shoe drops: Our store has to cut 34 HOURS off next week's schedule. THE WEEK OF CHRISTMAS! What friggin' planet is Woonsocket on? Tom "Ebeneezer" Ryan needs a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Shift Supervisors Present to see the errors of his ways.

God bless our profit margins, everyone!

Chances are I'll get my full 40 anyway and asked to "put forth that extra effort" working shorthanded.

O come all ye nightmules.

Truck this Job! [Dec. 15th, 2009|05:58 pm]

[mood | depressed]

Well, seems I'm the official overnighter for truck day i.e. the one who gets to put out all the heavy crap no one else wants to every week--plus whatever--shorthanded--fun, yes?

Anyway, last night I clock in, as ready as I can be, and my friendly store manager is beaming and telling me how he left only a couple of u-boats of case stock and "staged" the rest of it by the aisle endcaps to make my night a little easier. Aww, that was nice of him, wasn't it? Well, when my help finally arrived (an hour late), we got to work on it and I paced myself, hoping for one day without a sore, aching back to hopefully overcome by the next night.

We almost had it done and I had taken the time to take the overstock upstairs and staged it to make it easier to put away, when I discovered behind a palette of Valentines product (yeah, here we go with that holiday...) ALL THE FRIGGIN' HEAVY BEVERAGE AND BLEACH AND LAUNDRY DETERGENENT AND CAT LITTER and some other shit "hiding" there out-of-sight. What the Hell? Did no one see this?

Usually, this heavy stuff is left for me, but at least it's staged on a u-boat or two for me to wheel-out and work. This time it's still on the damn palette behind a tower of "love" so I have to load it up myself, swinging boxes and shink-wrapped racks of beverages around this palette to get them on the trolleys to wheel out onto the sales floor. Oh yeah, my help leaves early to go to his other job too...

Well, I somehow managed to get it all put away by the time the assistant manager arrives to relieve me in the morning. I don't know how I looked, but it spooked him. "You look terrible," he said and he wasn't joking. I told him my problem with the heavy stuff and he winced and shook his head and just said, "well, that's so-and-so for you... (referring to the sm). I'm getting the impression they don't see eye-to-eye on things. I didn't get some other stuff I usually do overnight done (photolab machine tests, verifying deposit, etc.) done but he didn't seem upset about that, just complained about the store being shorted hours and sent me home. He seemed satisfied with my efforts at least.

Had I known what all was there, I would have worked the whole night differently, putting out the heavy stuff first when I was "fresh" (I couldn't even get to it at first, since it was blocked by u-boats with overstock on them). There was an empty u-boat upstairs that could have been used to stage this stuff. Instead, I tried to rush it all out late in my shift. My whole day was spent praying my aching back would go away enough before work tonight.

And there I was apologizing to the ASM because I thought I didn't get enough done.

I'm scared. I'm scared I don't have the horses for this job and I might have to either pack it in or ask for easier shifts (that doesn't always work for this heavy stuff is sometimes still left for me to do other nights when I don't do it on truck night). I don't want to let the store down, but I'm almost in tears some nights worried that I am (so much for the prototypical 47-year-old male, huh?).

Anyway, I go in an hour late tonight (cutbacks), and I think I'll be alright... 'till next truck.

Another management failing:

Stores in my town have been banned from using our bells. Now the cashier on duty can not leave the register area. (The email from the bosses said this exactly.)
As much as a pain the bell can be it was needed in my store. We are low volume. Its big deal when we do $10,000. Sometimes we only get only just over 200 totes for truck. Maybe 5 photo orders a day(Including digital). We are open 8-9 every day and Sunday we are open 9-6! The front store has the SM,AM, three supervisors, a photo supervisor, me(photo tech) and a part-time teenager as a cashier. Since our store manager is on medical leave we have our Hallmark lady be a cashier on a couple of shifts. Of course during Christmas time its busy but in just a couple of weeks, the cashier will just be bored stiff. Theres only so many days in a row you can fill check out candy and straighten the front end caps.

The reason behind taking our bells away. (Which only makes sense if you are a district manager) is a store in my town got a real bad complaint from a customer. The cashier(Who was/is a supervisor) was apparently putting up truck and told the customer that they would just have to wait to be checked out because they were alone there. (Um yeah right, even in the most dead stores here we still have two people on duty.) Then when the supervisor went to ring up the customer they didn't bother to say hello/say sorry for the wait/ask for a cvs card. So of course the bell is to blame. Of course all the other stores are to blame. Can't just punish that store and be done with it.

I've been to that store. The first time I walked in there I thought, "Oh I hope I don't have to transfer here!"

I thinking this rule can't last long. Unfairly at my store the district offices are in the back so we can't even sneak the bell out on slow days. (I suspect we will start to try on weekends.)

Rosie Red Encore for sale [Dec. 10th, 2009|08:19 am]
blythedoll
[prettykill]
Hello,

I currently have a Rosie Red Encore in my possession. I've had her since 2007.

I fell in love with blythe dolls back then, but.... basically she has only stood on my shelf since that time. I am hoping that someone can take her off of my hands and give her a better home...

She is in great condition, a bit dusty at most. All of her items are in tact (card, stand, stockings, purse, coat, comb, shoes, etc). I have the box, even all the plastic inside, and the box she was shipped in (don't know if that's relevant). She was unopened before I received her.

photo is from back when I received her. I can take new or better photos upon request.

I am selling her for $160 (or best offer) + approx $20 shipping. (I recall paying somewhere between $200-300 USD for her).

I can be contacted by email at prettykill@gmail.com
